[CGTN News] The Heat: China’s millennials redefine what it means to be Chinese

China’s young adults – those born between 1980 and 2000 – are ready to take on the world.

At 400 million strong, they make up a massive group with major purchasing power and social impact.

They’re also a generation that has seen their country rise to global superpower status in the span of a lifetime.

A new book, “Young China: How the Restless Generation Will Change Their Country and the World” seeks to explain the attitudes and experiences of China’s millennials. The author, Zak Dychtwald lived in and traveled around China gathering stories for the book.

To discuss China’s next generation of leaders:

  • Ruonan Zheng is a reporter for Jing Daily.

  • Dali Yang is a professor of political science at the University of Chicago.

  • Zak Dychtwald is the author of “Young China.”
